Copper Canyon Travel Guide

Copper Canyon can be described with a lot of different words but the one that might come to mind first is "vast". As the name implies, there are canyons any which way you look. The landscapes are unforgettable as you travel through the awe-inspiring vistas of majestic mountains, cliffs, tunnels and bridges. Accompanied by the scent of pine, 1500 foot-drop waterfalls and a starry sky overhead, you can rest assured that the Copper Canyon will put a spectacular backdrop to a spectacular journey.

Come and rock climb, rappel, mountain bike, hike, horseback ride, fish, bird watch or find an extreme sport to whet your action palate.

The Canyon is also home to the Raramuri (also known as the "Tarahumara", which means "light feet") and they are people known for their extraordinary talent as distance runners, their handcraft tradition (which includes baskets, hats, woolen blankets, among other things), their woodcarvings and their plant medicine. They are an example of a resilient people for they still maintain their traditional beliefs, even though Catholicism has been incorporated into them.

Along the Copper Canyon route, you can find different towns off the various stops, where you can go and explore the surrounding areas and wander through the towns for local cuisine and handcrafts. Travel back into time and visit the Mennonite communities or partake in the Adventure Tourism Festival. With settings like these surrounding whatever activity you take up, you'll have a tough time choosing.
